Shelly Bryant Named Employee of the Semester
VALDOSTA -- Department of Physics, Astronomy and Geosciences
(PAG) Secretary Shelly Bryant was named Employee of the Fall 2011
Semester during the Council on Staff Affairs’ December meeting,
held Tuesday, Dec. 13 in the University Center Cypress Room.
Na Ding from Information Technology was named first runner up for
the award and Wilburn Leschber from University Police was named
second runner up. Other nominees for Employee of the Semester
included Valerie Bayman (College of Education), Rex Devane (Media
Services, Odum Library), Sherri Wade (Kings Bay), Angela Acosta
(Plant Operations), Tracy Burch (College of Education), Blanche
Thomas (College of Education), and Frederique Dunham (Chemistry
Department).
Bryant, who was runner up for Employee of the Semester in Fall
2010, has worked at VSU since 2007. As a secretary, she handles
basic office duties, works with students and assists faculty
members in the PAG department.
"I am blessed to be in this department," said Bryant. "The customer
service and problem solving that I provide keeps me excited, and I
appreciate the faculty for giving me the freedom to do what I need
to do to make things happen."
Bryant added that the student lab and office assistants assist her
in making sure things run smoothly in the department. She also
credits administrative offices such as accounting and purchasing
for helping her solve problems timely and efficiently.
Bryant is currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in general studies
with a mass media emphasis.
The Employee of the Semester Award recognizes outstanding
